Boundless Worlds
in Small Boxes.

Original manga, illustrated fiction, divination decks, and tabletop worlds—crafted beneath the mist by Joshua Ross.

One studio. Many thresholds.

Stories you can read.
Worlds you can hold.

Studio Under Mist is an independent creative studio for the wonderfully curious: readers, players, collectors, and seekers drawn to imaginative worlds with a little shadow at their edges.

From seaside supernatural romance and cozy witchcraft to readable divination systems and tactical fantasy, every project begins with character, atmosphere, and the belief that a small object—a book, a card, a box—can open somewhere immeasurably larger.

Each Studio Under Mist project has its own voice and visual world, but all share the same handmade spirit: inviting, character-led, and just strange enough to linger.

Cozy middle-grade fantasy

Gia the
Apprentice Witch

A young witch. An eccentric grandmother. A candle-headed toad who eats absolutely everything—especially what he shouldn’t.

Gia’s apprenticeship begins in a warm, unruly world of living cottages, woodland magic, gentle peril, and found family. This richly illustrated 299-page adventure is made for readers ages 8–12 and anyone who still believes kindness, courage, and curiosity are powerful forms of magic.

Kani no Koibito

Love is pinching—and Hiroshi’s ordinary life has encountered an unrecoverable database error.

A seaside romantic comedy with supernatural mystery in its shell. When the awkward, overworked Hiroshi meets Misaki—a mysterious girl with unmistakably crablike qualities—slice-of-life tenderness, deadpan humor, and ocean folklore collide.

Written and illustrated by Joshua Ross, this standalone manga is for readers who like strange meet-cutes, quiet coastal moods, and romance that refuses to behave normally.

The story
begins at zero.

The world has stopped. Someone has to make it move again.

Initiative Break: Volume 0 opens the manga side of Studio Under Mist’s flagship tactical fantasy universe—a world fractured by Flux, Anomaly Zones, and a battle for control of time itself.

Meet the fighters who will shape Danae before taking them onto the table. The manga, card game, narrative campaign, and field lore are designed as doors into the same setting.

Made by
Joshua Ross.

Writer, artist, game designer, and inveterate builder of worlds that do not fit neatly into one medium.

Studio Under Mist is the independent creative home of Joshua Ross. Its catalog crosses manga, illustrated fiction, oracle systems, and tabletop games because some worlds ask to be read, some ask to be played, and the best ones keep finding new ways to be entered.
